Experiencing University Dorm Life

Like a new undergraduate student, Bridges participants will live on KU's campus in one of the dorms. Participants will have at least one roommate, and program staff will do their best to place participants from different countries in the same room to encourage communication and bonding between participants beyond the scheduled daily activities, as well as provide a realistic university housing experience. Staff chaperones will also be staying in the same area as participants for safety and support during the night.

KU dorm rooms come with two beds, a bathroom with a shower, dressers, desks, and a secure entry. Participants will be in the same building and on the same floors.

Housing Amenities

Every dorm building requires keycard access to enter, and each dorm room has a front door that requires a physical key to unlock. In addition, dorms have 24/7 service desks that monitor the entrances.

Free, fast, and secure Wi-Fi is available in every dorm building, allowing participants to stay in contact with family and friends throughout the program.

Each participant will receive a packet of bed linens at the start of the program.

Items provided include:

  • Fitted bottom sheet
  • Flat top sheet
  • Pillow and pillowcase
  • Warm blanket

All dorm buildings and rooms are air conditioned, and each room can be adjusted to accommodate for the comfort of all roommates.

Dining

All meals are provided during the program. Most meals will be eaten at Mrs. E's, one of KU's cafeterias just a short walk from the dorms. The cafeteria provides options for a variety of diets, allergies, and nutritional needs.

International Short Programs and KU Dining staff take food allergies seriously. Following acceptance to the program, program staff will request information regarding any food allergies or restrictions of each participant, and if there is an allergen or dietary concern, we will work with KU Dining to ensure there are options available that fit participants' needs.
