Frequently Asked Questions

Arrival & Departure

To maintain a manageable arrival and departure schedule for participants and staff, arrival and departure dates are not flexible. If there is no way for a participant to arrive or depart on the program-selected dates, please contact isp@ku.edu as early as possible.

Please book tickets to and from Kansas City International Airport (MCI).

No. All participants are responsible for purchasing their own travel.

Of course! Before arrival, all participants will receive an email with a phone number they and their families can use to contact ISP as participants travel to and from Kansas City International Airport for updates, concerns, or pressing questions. The phone number will be connected to WhatsApp and WeChat for easy emergency access.

Travel Documents

After you have confirmed your spot and International Short Programs has received your deposit, you will receive an email from isp@ku.edu with an invitation letter and more country-specific information. Once you have received that email, we recommend starting the visa or ESTA process as soon as possible. While the ESTA process usually does not take very long, visa process times can take anywhere from 2 weeks to multiple months, depending on where you will be applying and interviewing (if necessary).

Costs

The cost of the program covers:

  • housing (including bed linens)
  • three meals a day
  • all activities and field trips

Program Housing

Roommates will be determined by ISP staff to make sure participants aren't only living with other participants from their same country. Requests to change will only be approved if there are unresolvable issues between roommates.

There will be program chaperones on the same floor as participants, and in their own rooms.
